Sparks, Crackles, and Other Random Thoughts – May 2012

Dare I say it, we are half way thru the spring storm season and no major events in the past few weeks. So, I’m looking forward to summer and all that goes on in Ham Radio. You know, the fun stuff, HamCom down in Plano, Field Day, Local Special event stations, and local hamfests. Good propagation or at least that’s what summer’s supposed to be about. So, get the dust off the HF rig and get on the air, learn a new mode, study for that next VE test session and take a stab at upgrading.

In the meantime the ARES leadership has been busy setting up a Facebook account and a Twitter account; check out TECO ARES. We used the TECO, the WC5GC call organization to put a face “out there”. These will be another set of items in our tool box to get information out to you in times of need, and just to share information. Maybe by the time you read this we will be even closer to announcing the release of the website. It will be a great tool for your ARES and associated emcomm efforts.

Also thru the summer there will training opportunities to whet your appetite or may cause your to go on a quest for more information. Our next training session May 22nd at the Sherman airport will have a presentation on Packet communications which can be useful in emergency/disaster situations. We look forward to seeing you there at 7 pm.

Thanks for your interest in ARES, its associated activities and service to our community.
